Answer #1

Different chemical composition leads to the formation of different microstructural features. Intermetallic phases improve or decrease mechanical and physical properties which depend on the morphologies, type and distribution of these phases that are in turn a function of alloy composition and cooling rate for example:-

The microstructure of a material (such as metals, polymers, ceramics or composites) can strongly influence chemical properties such as

  • Mechanical properties- strength, toughness, ductility, hardness,
  • Chemical properties-corrosion resistance, high/low temperature behaviour or wear resistance.
  • physical properties- texture, density ect .
