Sometimes, parents get disturbed because their child (before 4 or 5 years old) is not acquiring reading skills at the same age as other children in the neighborhood. Some parents involve their children in forced reading programs. One style of forced reading is scheduling a child sit to read a book for a certain amount of time. The parents or educators set a timer and the child finishes reading when it goes off. However, forcing children to read at an early age is wrong for several reasons. First, young children forced to read aren't mature enough — emotionally and intellectually — to understand the concept of putting letters and sounds together, resulting in more harm than good. Second, according to a NBC News report, young children, if exposed to a constant repetition of words, symbols and pictures, will memorize what is before them and not truly read it. Third, forced reading will make reading seem like a rote chore instead of a fun, magical experience and lifelong leisure activity. Thus, forced reading ignores a simple truth: If children hate to read, they won’t read at all. Fourth, contrary to many parents’ opinion, forced reading at an early age does not guarantee an edge in the classroom; it does not give kids a leg up on the endless array of standardized tests that lay before them. Fifth, often parents push kids into early reading programs for their own stupid, petty vanity. “My Billie can read a third-grade level book in kindergarten! Whoo hoo! Aren’t I the greatest parent?” Sixth, like many aspects of our current educational policy, using the forced reading techniques with such young children puts too much emphasis on the end goal and too little on the most appropriate way to get there. Finally, research consistently shows that children develop at their own pace and rate, and the range of what is normal is broad. So, when a kid feels a need to learn how to read, he will. Please answer ALL the True or False questions!

Because women are more reproductively “valuable” than men, hence competition for mates is fiercer among men Because men invest more heavily in reproduction than women Because men secrete more testosterone Trivers’ theory does not speculate on the origin of the sex difference in size and physical aggression Although some women are interested in casual sex (short-term mating), research has suggested that there are differences in...
