34. Calculate the specific heat (J/g∘C) for a 25.5 g sample of a metal that absorbs 617 J when temperature increases from 38.9 ∘C to82.1 ∘C.

SH = ? g/J Celcius

36. The heat of reaction, ΔH, is the amount of heat absorbed or released during a chemical reaction. It is calculated as the difference in energy of the products and the reactants.

Part B. The energy diagram shown represents the chemical reaction between solid ammonium chloride and solid barium hydroxide octahydrate:

2NH4Cl(s)+Ba(OH)2⋅8H2O(s)→2NH3(aq)+BaCl2(aq)+10H2O(l)

The ΔH for this reaction is 54.8 kJ . How much energy would be absorbed if 26.7 g of NH4Cl reacts?

Express your answer with the appropriate units.

Answer #1

34)

Given:

Q = 617 J

m = 25.5 g

Ti = 38.9 oC

Tf = 82.1 oC

use:

Q = m*C*(Tf-Ti)

617.0 = 25.5*C*(82.1-38.9)

C = 0.560 J/g.oC

Answer: 0.560 J/g.oC
