What are the conditions under which omitted variable bias arises?
An omitted variable bias occurs when one or more important variables are left out from a statistical model. The condition under this arises is when the dependent variable is influenced significantly by the omitted variable and the when the omitted variable is correlated with any one of the independent variables of the said model.
An omitted variable bias satisfies the following properties The omitted variable also causes y independent of the explanatory variable The omitted variable is uncorrelated with the included explanatory variable The omitted variable does not cause y independent of the explanatory variable The omitted variable is correlated with the included explanatory variable
Multiple Linear Regression - Omitted Variable bias. Can someone provide me with an intuitive explanation of ommitted variable bias.
Omitted variable bias is only a problem in a small sample, it disappears when the sample size gets sufficiently large. A. True B. False
3. Causality Define the following terms: Reverse Causality, Omitted Variable Bias, Measurement Error (Note: Give a general definition, not slides'example) Why are these things an issue when we want to make statements like "X causes Y" Two ways in which we try to overcome these issues is using Instrumental Variables and Regressions Discontinuity. Describe these and give an example of it from the lecture. a. b. c.
1) Describe PN junction under equilibrium, forward, and backward bias conditions. Draw the band diagram together with charge density, electric field, and potential profiles across the junction. Describe the physics of charge transport (both electrons and holes) in PN junction under forward bias. Include drift, diffusion, recombinations etc in your description.
