Your Uncle Gertie gave you $30,000 but with strings attached. He wants you to throw a huge 60th birthday party for him at your house. He bluntly told you to get the kitchen remodeled in time for his party. Today is October 28th and he wants the party to be on New Year’s Eve. It’s a good news/bad news thing. Good news that your kitchen will be remodeled, bad news is that Uncle Gertie is retired and has a lot of time on his hands and wants to be involved with the changes. You have been thinking of selling your house so even though you would like to turn this down, the offer is a good one and a new kitchen would boost the selling price while making the house easier to sell. As a result, you agree to the terms. Both of you agree you need new cabinets, countertops and appliances, switching from a gas to electric stove. You want a new layout of the kitchen that will require the help of a kitchen designer and this the likely relocation of the sink/dishwasher. You are planning to take some vacation time to work the project but you will have to hire professional to complete the majority of the work. Project Mission: To host a New Year’s Eve party in your newly remodeled kitchen Project Guidelines: Start Date: October 28 End Date: December 28 Budget: $30,000 Required Project Elements: Scope statement WBS Schedule Risk Plan Resource Plan Communication Plan Stakeholder List Budget Breakdown As you begin to plan out the costs for the remodel, you determine that how you want to remodel the kitchen will take more money than Uncle Gertie is giving you. You need to consider if you want to add in your own money to cover the gap. The following table show some of the costs you are considering: Cabinetry $16,128 Cabinet Finish $4,268 Honed Granite Countertops $6,340 Stainless Steel Countertops $3,646 Appliances – includes range, dishwasher, undercounter wine cooler, hood, microwave/convection oven, refrigerator $10,298 Plumbing fixtures (sink and disposal) $704 Cabinet Hardware (31 pulls@$10 each) $310 Pendant Lights $300 Floor Refinishing $781 Approximate Total Cost $42,775 Deliverable: Project Plan Using the items in the Required Project Elements list, put together a project plan outlining the key items for the project.
