Answer #1

1) Answer- Host tropism refers to infection specificity of a pathogen to a particular host.

Pathogen can interact with specific cell types only because of following factors-

  • Structure of cell surface receptors.
  • Availability of certain transcription factors which can identify pathogenic genome.
  • Ability of host cell to support multiplication of pathogen.
  • Presence of physical or chemical barriers on or in the cell.

2) Answer- Yes endosomal pH effects entry of virus inside host. Study of Ebola virus suggested that a low endosomal pH facilitates virus entry or we can say that virus can only enter when endosomal pH is low. Virus also uses endosomal proteolytic enzymes for host penetration.
