• Describe how you will use the four functions of management to achieve your performance goals in your current work or volunteer position.

The four management functions are Plan, Organize, Lead and Control. We can thing of the four processes as sequence of steps, where in the predecessor is the input for the next function.

Planning: Planning is the process of thinking and preparing a schedule about the activities to be performed to achieve the goal.

It is the primary responsibility of manage to plan the tings before acting. Planning includes the planning for the resources, allocation of the tasks to the resources, delegating the responsibilities. Planning is continues activity and needs re-plan the things as per the situation right from the beginning till the end of the activities.

Organizing: Organizing is the process of effective authority relationship among selected work, person and work places in order to work together effectively.

The input for organizing is planning. This means that the process of implementing the tasks that were planned is called organizing. It is the responsibility of the manager to assign the right tasks to right employees based on the skill set. This is continues process and managers should plan and reorganize the things based on the scenarios.

Lead: The process of leading is taking the primary responsibility of the success or failure of the task or group of tasks. There can be many examples for leading. For example the Caption Sullen Burg took the complete responsibility of the lives of passengers flying in his flight while landing the flight on the Hudson River due to sudden crash because of a flying guise colliding with the propeller of right wing of the flight.

This is a continues process right before initiating the after completing of the task and recording the lessons learnt, completing the closer audit and closing down all the tasks, releasing the resources and finally getting him / her self-released from the responsibilities.

Controlling: Controlling is the process of comparing the actuals with the standards and take the corrective action as needed.

Planning, Organizing and Leading are the inputs for Controlling. This process is required to ensure all the processes are running as per the schedule. This process will keep the things moving in right direction and will correct immediately, so that the bigger problems and be avoided and ensure the smooth completion of all the tasks.
