I would focus on generating ideas in a creative manner for the presentation and for this I would use a mix of ridiculous run through exercise and object d’Office exercise. The use of these two exercises will enable the team members to approach a problem in a creative manner rather than in a logical manner. Human brain is divided into two parts – the left part and the right part. The left part of the human brain is logical and can aptly do analysis in a controlled environment. However, to be effective creative solutions have to be obtained and for this the right part of human brain will have to be used. The emphasis will be on creativity, spontaneity and lateral thinking. I could also use the concept of reverse brainstorming or reverse thinking. In this form of brainstorming the problem is identified and then reversed. This approach will generate new ideas which otherwise would not have been possible.

Fellow coworkers can be motivated to actively participate within the brainstorming activity by taking steps to inspire creativity in them. Create a conducive environment for conducting the brainstorming sessions. Inform the topic of discussions beforehand and structure the brainstorming process to streamline it.

Some obstacles that may be encountered when participating in brainstorming activity are – (i) It takes time to organize a session (ii) There is an absence of a system to evaluate the ideas properly that have been generated during a brainstorming session. (iii) Sometimes co-workers get fixed on a dominant idea. These obstacles can be overcome by planning a session before hand and much in advance and informing the employees the topic of discussion. Emphasis on divergence will also remove the obstacles.
