Answer #1

The Alchemist as well as The Way have a similar central theme: a journey or pilgrimage exploring the soul. The book and the movie deal with themes of inner exploration in the backdrop of travel. While in both stories the protagonist sets out on a physical journey, it is equally an inner journey they are making.

In The Alchemist, the geographical and cultural settings are vastly different from that of The Way. The Alchemist sees its Andalusian protagonist head to Egypt in dreams of a fortune that awaits him while The Way sees its protagonist head to recover the body of his son from France as an act of closure. In The Alchemist, it is hope for gains in the future, thus motivated by a bright future, whereas, in The Way, the protagonist is moved to this journey in the context of hopelessness as he has just lost his son.
