One bullet has twice the mass of a second bullet. If both are fired so that they have the same speed, which has more kinetic energy? What is the ratio of the kinetic energies of the two bullets?

Options:

- The one with the greatest mass has more kinetic energy but the reason for these energies cannot be predicted
- the one with twice the mass has greater kinetic energy and the reason for these energies is equal 2.
- Both have equal kinetic energy and therefore the reason for these is equal 1
- The one with greater mass has greater kinetic energy and the reason for these energies is equal to 4

Answer #1

Here,

as the kinetic energy = 0.50 * m * v^2

as the mass of the first bullet is double

for the same speed, the kinetic energy of the first will be 2 times

hence , the correct option is

the one with twice the mass has greater kinetic energy and the ratio for these energies is equal 2.
