A) What are the key differences and similarities between public health and health care delivery
The similarities between Public health and health care
:
Public health as well as health care aim at improving the health of
public and therefore make such facilities and amenities available
that will ensure good health.
Both the programs aim at a collective effort of public and private
sector in order to prevent sickness, protect spread of diseases ,
increase the good health , cure diseases, improve quality of life ,
increase standards of living , and to provide other rehabilitation
facilities.
The Public health can also be said to include all curative care
i.e health care also termed as (Medical care) and other health care
facilities, programmes and activities.
Therefore heath care can be thus defined as a sub system of public
health where health care is mostly indulged in curative measures
and public health is mostly dealing in preventive measures
Differences in public health and health care :
Us public health mostly deals in protecting, promoting , and
advancing the health and safety of people in US to ensure the death
tolls due to health issues is minimum .
It's main focus lies in ensuring proper facilities at place and
quick service plus efficient feedback mechanism to address the
needs , complaints and necessities of public in US. It focuses on
improving health , excellence and leadership in the areas of health
services and advancements in public science.
While in comparison the Healthcare delivery does not focuses on health of US population or prevention schemes or death toll minimization but rather , takes into its focus the various macro factors such as housing patterns , poverty level , cultural patterns , living standards, medical security , life insurance ,education about health , diet etc . It's priority is mostly curative factors not the preventive factors as in public health. In USA it is considered as expensive with poor access but providing large benefits to those who can access it.
Public health is a combination of three p's i e promote health ,
prevent disease and prolong life .
While health care by definition prioritizes facilities for
betterment of an individual under program.
Public health involves both public as well as private sector ,
actually individuals at large while health care is for those who
can or want to access the program
Public health coverage is provided through Ministry of Health,
which operates a series of medical facilities providing free health
services.
While health care costs a minimum sum and encompasses other
requirements also for the cure and facilities.
Public health can be in the form of programs , surveys etc while health care is hospital or care clinic based.
B) Compare and contrast your findings with US health systems
with one other developed country.
The comparison between the US and Canada.
The health system of three countries vary in terms of the following :
The health care system of US are seen as more advanced to the
rest of two countries but in US health sector like other sectors is
measured in terms of returns , therefore the concept that "health
care should be a right" is not considered here and only those get a
privilege to access the advanced services and latest
treatments who actually can afford it and are wealthy enough to pay
a long medical bill.
However in the recent years health systems have shown a positive
trend with the establishment of programs such as affordable care
act etc providing health care free of cost , insuring people at
minimum possible rates and aiming at decreasing the death
tolls.
Canada on the other hand has recently established a approach
where all the Canadian citizens are entitled to the
Health services and public can participate in these health plans
irrespective of their age, gender , health status, or financial
means.
Canada follows " fee for service " approach and aims at keeping a
minimum amount of fee for availing medical benefits.
It provides funds to health care systems through transfer of funds
or grants from taxes .
The health care services in United states lead to an expenditure of about $2,354 while that of an Canada counted to $1,683
In case of the personal health services which approximately consumed 11.8 percent of the gross domestic product in United states compared to 8.7 percent in Canada,
