Supporting information:

Hypothetical:

You are currently working in a small group to analyse and design the system. After interviewing the potential users of the system, you have identified the following requirements. You have five to six weeks to deliver your results to a software developer. You have to act in the best interest of the client with a high degree of autonomy.

Requirements

Users of this system are:

a) Individual customers who use the Business-to-Consumer (B2C) module of the system to purchase a product

b) Employees of the enterprise, who use the Intranet module to manage internal business operations.

Individual consumers: the B2C module of the system should enable the consumers to:

 Create a user account

 Update the user account.

 Browse products by department. There are four departments including: games, apps, electronics and books.

 Select product.

 Personalise the service: personalise the service based on the level of service support (premium customer service or limited customer service) and based on the choice of communication method (via email or via SMS).

 Pay online via PayPal, credit card or bank check.

 Search ‘purchase history’ in the last 30 days, last three months, or last six months.

 Use a chatbot to receive personalised customer support.

 Interact with the company via the company’s Twitter and discussion forum.

 Provide feedback for a product via star-rating and the comment section.

 Provide feedback on service experience via online survey and the company’s social media page that is linked to the website.

 Track orders via the website or via an SMS messaging system.

Employees: the Intranet module of the system should enable the employees to:

 Generate monthly financial reports.

 Update product information.

 Interact with customers via social media.

 Integrate the chatbot with the ‘service solutions’ database.

The external stakeholders include credit card institutions, producers of products, product delivery businesses, and TekSupportT (a company that provides 24 hour technical support for the website)

Case 1: for items 2a, 2b

System Artefacts is a consultancy company where a small group of designers design online stores for a wide range of businesses. The company was set up in 2017 by three Information Technology (IT) graduates. George is a computer science expert, Mary’s expertise is in the area of information systems, and Thomas knows information systems and gamification for designing enterprise systems. In 2019, the founders decided to expand their business by providing internship opportunities for university students. Once the new team was established, the company targeted a business client who is a medium-sized enterprise and needs to employ a fully functional online store. The business client currently owns a website, but it provides very limited functionalities. For example, it does not allow customers to personalise the services and there are limited payment options. The business client needs a fully functional and modern website.

Answer #1

2(a)

Importance of FMC diagram :

The Fundamental Modelling Concepts (FMC) diagram helps us in visualisation of the system in terms of various sub-systems or modules, that will make up this entire system or lets say how will these sub-systems interact/communicate with each other to accomplish the project goals. Some of the benefits of using the FMC diagram are :

  • Less implementation time by development team as communication among sub-systems is clearly predicted. They would have to focus only on implementation specific details.
  • Easier for people from non-technical background (like clients and business executives) to understand the sub-systems and how are these interacting.
  • Helps in incorporating different stakeholders viewpoints.

2(b)

Importance of Use Case diagram :

Use case diagrams depict the system from end users perspective, meaning how is a user going to interact with the system or in other words what are the functionalities exposed to the user.

Use case diagrams have the following importance :

  • Helps in capturing the requirements of the system.
  • Clearly demonstrating the functionalities supported by the system.
  • Helps in identifying the factors (internal as well as external) influencing the system.
