Topic: Compare the wage gap between the sexes by adding a layer of race to the complex issues that face women when entering the workforce. The objective I’m hoping to accomplish during this case is to show how discrimination based on sex and race affect women while highlighting many issues that women face in the workforce. The topic I want to investigate is a wage gap on a national level between males and females. There has always been a wage gap since females have entered the workforce after World War 2. The gender pay gap within the United States has always been a problem, and within the last few years with the feminist movement on the rise, and women empowerment, the conversation is now being discussed more frequently. Even within the previous two presidential elections, you have women like Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren, making this a talking point at some of their rallies and campaigns. I want to evaluate women's contributes to the workforce and the struggles they go through to make it in a male-dominated field. The deal that women are stereotyped as part-time, lower-grade workers through this glass ceiling that men have set for them. I’m hoping to use this essay as serve as a conversation piece to evaluate women's inequality in the workplace. Introduction: Lashunda Johnson is a black female assistant manager at a local Party City that specializes in all your party needs, from theme decoration to costumes. At Lashunda store location, her team organization leadership chart includes a store manager, two assistant manager, a front end supervisor who is a key holder, and roughly seven part-time employees. Within the last year, the Lashunda store has made the transition from an independently own franchise to a corporate store location. During this transition, the store manager was replaced. Also, the other female assistant manager was replaced within six months by a male. For a short being of time during this transition, Lashunda was the active store manager, which she did apply for but did not receive. The store manager position was filled by a male candidate that has been with corporate and was willing to relocate to help transition the store to be a top performer. During that time, the new store manager hired a younger white male with little to none experience in managing a team or no experience as a manager. One day Lashunda overheard that the new manager is making almost 3 dollars more than she is currently after being employed with the company for a little over five years. After here, this Lashaunda brought this to the store manager's attention, he promises her he would look into it. After about a week or so she brought up the conversation again to the store, he said he is waiting to hear back from HR. Later on that day, when the Lashunda shift was about to end, the manager called her into the office to let her know her employment is no longer need and she was not performing to the company standards. Lashunda file a lawsuit in the district court that Party City had conspired to discriminate against her based on sex and race.

Unequal pay embodies gender discrimination.

The gender pay gap is a measure of wage disparity between males and females. The various data made it clear that women are still paid much less relative to men. It is calculated by dividing women's pay by men's pay, and this ratio is expressed as a percent or dollar terms. It shows how much a woman is paid for each dollar paid to a man. According to data from the 2017 U.S. Census Bureau, on average a woman is paid 80.5 cents for every dollar a man earns.

When working women are paid less than working men because of their gender, it is a form of sex discrimination and is illegal.

THE LAW IT VIOLATES

Unequal pay violates the Equal Pay Act of 1963 that prohibits gender-based wage discrimination in the United States. The law commands equal pay for equal work by prohibiting employers from paying men and women different wages or offering benefits for doing jobs that require the same expertise and responsibilities.

The Equal Pay Act,1963 was among the first laws in American history directed at reducing gender discrimination in the workplace. The Act was an effort to amend a centuries-old issue of gender-based wage discrimination.

The Equal Pay Act does permit aggrieved employees to take their complaints or objections directly with the state or federal court without having to first file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Another law that was enacted to reduce employment discrimination is the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which forbids employers from discriminating based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
