When a firm tries to use locating operations, it means that the firm s trying to access the location of a customer or a prospective client in order to boost it's business and expand. Although sometimes it maybe harmless and aimed at improving the user experience for the client by prediction of routes, and many more but mostly this is taken as a threat to one's privacy as this way of collecting location access might be hidden from the user and his location is accessed without his prior permission. Thus, violating certain laws of ethical use of technology.

Now, in the US and the third world nations in rest of the world, there are a lot of strict laws and regulations in place like the Cyber Securities act and such which protects one's digital footprints and hold the firms selling priority based information like location to other third parties responsible.

Now let us come to Information Security or InfoSec. Information security, sometimes shortened to infosec, is the practice of protecting information by mitigating information risks. It is a part of information risk management.

The three basic principles of InfoSec are confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA).

As location tracking without prior permission violates the confidentiality section and if the data is leaked it also violates the integrity sections and thus, faces a lot of legal and ethical opposition.
