Which of the following best describes trade-offs of ectothermy versus endothermy?

Ectotherms can allocate more resources (Energy) to body growth, but also must expend more resources maintaining body temperature; the opposite is true for endotherms.

Endotherms struggle to maintain quick muscle action in cooler environments as compared to ectotherms.

Ectotherms generally maintain a more constant internal temperature than do endotherms.

Two but not three of the above are correct

Answer #1

Ectotherms are the animals which are dependent on external sources for their body temperature and their body temperature changes according to environment. Eg- Fishes

Endotherms are the animals which do not depend on external environment and regulate their body temperature internally .

Eg- Mammals

Endotherms struggle to maintain quick muscle action in cooler environment because in more cooler environment their body produces more energy by increasing tension on muscles and thus by shivering.Muscles work less in this environment.

Ectotherms have more external energy resources for body growth as they easily survive in the changing temperature and adapt environmental conditions but they do not expend more resources to maintain body temperature as they are ectotherms and their body temperature changes according to environment. So they do not need to expend more resources for maintaining body temperature.

Thus, only one statement is correct here(2nd).

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
