The relative humidity (RH) of surface air (2 m height) tends to decrease from morning into early afternoon, especially when the sun is shining and the weather is quiet and stable. As evening approaches, RH usually rises again. This is because relative humidity is driven by TEMPERATURE. The temperature gradually increases from morning into early afternoon and this increasing temperature results in a decreased relative humidity. When the air is heated/warmed, it will expand and will therefore hold a greater amount of moisture. As the temperature changes, the relative humidity will also change but they are inversely proportional to each other.  As the temperature increases/goes up, the relative humidity decreases/goes down and vice versa.
