What phenotypic ratio (dominant versus recessive) is expected in the autotetraploid offspring of the cross Aaaa XAAaa if all viable gametes are diploid? The presence of a single dominant allele will cause the dominant phenotype.

Given, Genotypes of parents are Aaaa and AAaa.

Let parent having genotype Aaaa be male. It will produce diploid gametes having genotype Aa and aa.

Also,let parent having genotype AAaa be female. It will produce diploid gametes having genotype AA,Aa and aa.

Using Punnette square,we can easily get the genotypes of offsprings from the cross Aaaa×AAaa as follows

aa Aaaa aaaa

Since, the presence of a single dominant allele causes dominant phenotype, total number of progenies having dominant and recessive phenotype are 5 and 1 respectively.

Hence, the expected phenotypic ratio (dominant versus recessive)in the autotetraploid offspring of the cross Aasa×AAaa is 5:1
