Discuss different types of user interaction. What are some of the guidelines to consider when designing a menu for user interaction?
No pics.
The major types of user interaction are:
1) Graphical User Interface:
A GUI is a graphical user interface to a computer. Elements of a GUI include such things as: windows, pull-down menus, buttons, scroll bars, iconic images, wizards, the mouse.
2) Menu based
A menu is a graphical control element used in graphical user interfaces. It lists options or commands for the user to select in order to execute the proper application function. Menus are a common feature of operating systems, software applications and Web-based applications.
3) Form based
A type of user interface used, for example, on the internet, to organize questions or options for the user so that they resemble a traditional paper form to be filled out by pointing to the fields and typing text, or by choosing from a list.
4) Command Line
Command line interfaces are also called command-line user interfaces, console user interfaces and character user interfaces
Guidelines for designing menu driven programs:
1) .Each menu should always have an exit option for navigation purpose.
2) Menu driven should be implemented with a switch case
3) Make sure the navigation throughout is well connected. First draw it on paper, and then connect as per needs.
4) Options should be short and simple
5) Options should be printed distinctively away from the other code features

chpater 7&8 Designing the user interface: strategies for effective human-computer interaction (textbook) 1.An airline company is designing a new on-line reservation system. They want to add some direct-manipulation features. For example, they would like customers to click a map to specify the departure cities and the destinations, and to click on the calendar to indicate their schedules. From your point of view, list four benefits and four problems of the new idea compared with their old system, which required the...
