The constitution of the U.S. and the way it distributes power is fundamentally different from the rest of the democratic nations. All of the 50 states have powers designated to them and there is a clear division of power between the state and the center, there are several reasons for doing so. The most important reason is to avoid the concentration of excessive power at one of the democratic institutions. Which is one of the primary reasons why the federal officers should not exercise more power in a quest for uniformity as it can create a lot of power imbalances throughout the state.
