You toss a ball in the air from a height of 0.75 m above the ground. Later, you drop an identical ball from the same height. Will the first ball be moving faster, slower, or with the same speed as the second right before hitting the ground? Why?

Answer :

Both the balls will be moving at the same speed when they strikes the ground. Because, Both the balls are at the same initial height - which means both the balls have equal initial potential energy. And, according to conservation of energy - the final kinetic energy when the ball will reach to the ground should be equal to the initial kinetic energy. But, here initial potential energy of both the balls are same, which means both the balls will have equal kinetic energy when they hit the ground.

And, Since they have equal kinetic energy - their velocities will be also equal. Therefore, Both the balls will have same speed right before hitting the ground.
