Are there stereotypes about motivation of public employee? What are they? Do you think they are accurate?
Yes there are stereotypes about motivation of public employees. These are:
1. Salary: this is a prime stereotype and means that a public employee is primarily motivated by salary only.
2. Appreciation: There is a general belief that a public employee gets motivation from the appreciation that he /she receives from boss.
3. Relaxed office timings: It is also believed that Casual work environment with less responsibility and relaxed office timings also motivate a public employee.
In my opinion these stereotypes are not accurate because these do not portray the accurate picture of motivation of public employee in today's times. Now the motivation is more due to job completion and Target achievement rather than focussing on the perks or merits because it is thought that perks would be automatically achieved once performance is up to the mark.
