Scenario 1: The newly appointed general manager a top German automotive company is a very charming personality. Although known for being very strict and reserved, this man has broken all stereotypes, and actively engages in conversations with his colleagues in the US office over lunch, goes out with clients for dinners etc, and happily addresses board meeting with a smile on his face. He believes that his workforce is self motivated, and hence, he has put his trust in them and give them an open space to work. The shares of the company have risen by 30% since his appointment and they are more than happy to have him as the GM.

Scenario 2: While deciding about expansion to European markets, two board members of a US FMCG major are at odds with the form of organisation structure to choose. One of them is of the view that they should follow functional organisation structure in the new office, as it will be easier to control the process and closely monitor activities of each functional department. The other one does not agree. He is of the view that divisions should be made as per product line, and there should be a divisional organisational structure. By doing so, it will be easier to fix accountability and find out which product is not performing well.
