Answer #1

The adolescent is an important phase of one's life, it is the transition phase from childhood to adulthood.

The adolescent is divided into three stages early (11-14), middle (15-17), and late (18-22) as per Hutchison's theory. Erik Erickson also divides this stage as identity vs. Role Confusion the basic virtue is Fidelity and Intimacy vs. Isolation the basic virtue is Love. Looking at these stages it is the most important phase of development where a growing child has to face the changes in his/her physical body and mental development. His/her own identity and love life.

The early (11-14) is the first stage of an adolescent; this is the stage when physical, intellectual, emotional as well as social changes take place. The teenagers act impulsively without thinking of the consequences because they undergo lots of chemical changes in the brain and hormonal changes. The physical changes are very scary for the children especially for girls when they start getting their menstrual cycle. The first sign is a very bad phase in a girl's life because she had never experienced anything of that sort, and age is also tender, the development of breast and hair growth in the body pubic hair and underarm hair are very scary and surprising. The boys attain puberty 1 or two years late than the girls. They find spurt in their heights, for girls, it begins around ages 10–11 and ends around 15–17 and for boys, it begins at11–12 and ends around 16–17, and they become mature entering their adulthood. They experience moodiness; there is a change in the relationship between parents and peer group

In the middle period that is (15-17) the children are more focused on their physical appearance. They develop a strained relationship with parents because at this period they want independent and as well as they are dependent on their parents for economic support, the conflict is usually on clothing, music, or on core values and religion. They start demanding answers from their parents for the questions, which they had never done before. They develop the ability to think and solve complex problems and plan .for the future. They are more attracted to the opposite sex, and they develop a desire for sex. They become very egocentric and ultrasensitive to remarks from parents and peer groups. They start believing in their peer groups more than their parents, this also the stage of fidelity

The late adulthood is (18-22) their rollercoaster days are getting over and they become independent as they become adults. The conflict between the parents and the children reduces as they are not legally dependent on their parents. This the time they focus more on their higher education for a better future life. There is an increase in intellectual level, they start intimacy, pleasing a partner, and they realize that they are responsible for the consequences of their actions.

I have gone through the same phases of developmental stages, for me, my early adolescent period was a real roller coaster.   The period going through puberty was very difficult for me, the spurt in my height, the growth of hair on my body, and hormonal changes had made me moody, I used to have conflict and argument. The change in physical appearance had made me more focused on my appearance, I had started giving more attention to my clothing and how I look, I use to spend hours in front of the mirror. It was a disturbing phase as my concentration had shifted from studies to my looks. I was impressed by the models and famous film personalities. During the class, we use to talk about sex and had started enjoying it.

As I reached my middle adolescent period my attraction towards the opposite sex became more active, we started sharing glances, and love letters. I had my first relationship with my colleague. Usually this is the period of education, in fact, it is the foundation stage of our future education, but the desire of sex had overshadowed my career, I had started showing less interest in my studies and more and more I was getting involved in other activities. The parents' interference was the cause of the conflict I did not realize that they were advising me for my better future, I had indulged myself in sex alcohol, smoking, and drugs, for me the life was revolving around these things.

At this stage also I was interested in my Science subjects, I use to be the best in a science subject and faired very badly in my other subjects.

When I reached my 18th birthday, I was relieved that I am free and independent I left my parents house and shifted to live with my friend. One day I had a bitter argument with my friend and left my friend's house, I pleaded my parents to let me stay for a few days.

The same evening when I was going through my notebooks I happened to see a remark on my book written by my teacher. She had appreciated my science journal and said you have the ability to become a good researcher. I turned many pages of my journal and I found many good remarks and appreciation by my teacher.

These small notes written by my teacher were the turning point in my life. I was reading, again and again, the line " your treasure is your intelligence and critical thinking, I wish you all the best, one day I can tell people that look, he was my student". These words were hammering on my brain, and I decided to change and change for the best.

I left smoking, drinking, and drug at once, I was surprised that I could do it; I was surprised at my will power and brain's ability to adapt to changes without asking. Today I am a researcher and researching human behavior during adolescence.
