Answer #1

1. Answer: Only the wealthy in society can achieve top positions.

The functionalist view does not claim that only the wealthy will reach top positions. Rather, they focus on the role of skills and abilities that makes a person functional to fit in a position or strata in the society. The view that only the wealthy will fit in top position comes under the conflict theory. The structural functionalism view argues that stratification is based on merit and skills and it makes sure that the right people occupy the right positions in society. It also places importance on the view that there is a hierarchy of importance regarding various positions in society.
