Answer #1

This is the life cycle of a gymnosperm. It also shows alternation of generation. Life cycle of bryophytes and pteridophytes and angiosperms also show alternation of generation.

the life cycle of a plant starts with a diploid sporophyte. It has sporangium which contains diploid spores. It undergoes meiosis to give rise to haploid spores. These spores germinate in the presence of suitable conditions to give rise to haploid gametophyte. The gametophyte gives rise to male and female gamete. Male gamete is called as sperm and female gamete is called as egg. Both of them are released from two different gametophyte. They fertilizers to form a diploid zygote. Zygote is the first cell of sporophytic or diploid generation. It undergoes mitosis to form sporophyte and the cycle continues.
