Once the sodium channel opens neuron completely depolarise to the membrane potential of +40mV. Action during this time " all or nothing.( refractory mode)

Potassium voltage gates open to allow potassium to go out of the cell. As the K+ leaves the cell membrane potential becomes negative. This diffusion of potassium hyperpolarize the cell during this period of time membrane potential of the cell become more negative than the normal. This makes sodium channels to reopen and makes membrane potential to reach the threshold which diffuse out potassium again to bring to normal state.
