Design a total of three [3] multiple choice questions. Each question should be based on a different topic covered in Biol 2101 lectures. These questions are to be original questions composed by you- not questions appearing in any textbook, in other resources supplied by any textbook publisher, or in on-line electronic resources. [Failure to comply with this requirement may result in plagiarism complaints/charges.] Each question should include a minimum of five [5] potential answers to choose from, i.e. answers a), b), c), d) and e). Please ensure there is a “correct” answer and that it is identified with an * beside the appropriate letter. Failure to meet these requirements will result in mark reductions. The questions should vary in the “degree of difficulty” with one being “difficult”, one being of “average difficulty” and one being “easy”. You must assign a “degree of difficulty” to each of your questions and explain why you assigned this degree of difficulty

Answer #1

TPOIC - DNA REPLICATION

DIFFICULTY LEVEL - AVERGAE DIFFICULT because this require deep knowledge of dna polymerase enzymes alongwith their properties.

ques - Which of the following DNA polymerase enzyme/ enzymes have 5' to 3' exonuclease activity ?

  1. DNA polymerase III
  2. DNA polymerase II
  3. * DNA polymerase I (CORRECT OPTION)
  4. DNA polymerase I AND III
  5. DNA polymerase II AND III

TPOIC - ENA PROCESSING

DIFFICULTY LEVEL - EASY  because this require MERE THE KNOWLEDGE OF snRNAs.

QUES - Which of the following sets of snRNAs ( small nuclear RNAs) are involved in splicing reactions of mRNA ?

  1. U1, U3, U4, U5 AND U6
  2. *U1, U2, U4, U5 AND U6 ( CORRECT OPTION)
  3. U1, U2, U3, U5 AND U6
  4. U1, U2, U3, U4 AND U6
  5. U1, U2, U3 , U5 AND U6
  6. U1, U2, U3, U4 AND U6

TPOIC - RHO INDEPENDENT AND DEPENDENT

DIFFICULTY LEVEL - DIFFICULT because this require deep knowledge of mechansim of termination of transcription

QUES - During the termination of transcription in E. coli, there are two pathways one is rho dependent and other is rho independent. Rho independent pathway requires which of the following step or structure ?

  1. rho helicase
  2. rut protein (rho utilisation)
  3. TBP ( tata binding protein)
  4. *RNA hairpin structure at palindromic sequences (CORRECT OPTION)
  5. RNA polymerase holoenzyme
