Why is religious liberty so important when forming a conception of basic human rights?
Most of the people in the world are religious and believe in a religion which would mean that their entire personality and attitude towards themselves and the world would be determined by their religious beliefs and affiliation. This would mean that people have the right to follow the religion they find applicable and appropriate. When it comes to human rights, one shouldn’t have a predetermined view or perspective because there is more than one religion in the world and according to moral relativism, one should be viewed from one’s own background and not from other’s background as it would lead to assumptions and misconceptions. What is right in one religion or culture may not be true with other religions or cultures, thus, when it comes to human rights, religious liberty should be taken into account.
