Answer #1

Initial distance = R1 = 3 m

Sound intensity level at a distance of 3 m from the source = 1 = 120 dB

Sound intensity at a distance of 3 m from the source = I1

I1 = 1 W/m2

New distance = R2

Sound intensity level at the new distance from the source = 2 = 100 dB

Sound intensity at the new distance from the source = I2

I2 = 0.01 W/m2

The sound is equally distributed in a spherical manner.

I1(4R12) = I2(4R22)

I1R12 = I2R22

(1)(3)2 = (0.01)R22

R2 = 30 m

Distance from the source so that the sound level decreases to 100 dB = 30 m
