Radio Trinidad had become Trinidad and Tobago's oldest radio station. It began broadcasting on frequency 730 AM at 11B Maraval Lane, Port of Spain, in 1947. The station has successfully presented a wide range of programs over the years, including soap operas, local and foreign news, educational shows such as the show of the School Broadcasting System, which broadcast at 10 a.m. The Passing Parade presented by John Doremus on Mondays through Fridays, when school was in session.

Radio is a sightless medium, or an invisible medium. Either the artist or listener can not see one another on tv. Consequently it is called the blind medium. Since it is a blind or sightless medium, both the artist and the audience have to picture each other in a imaginative way. And as soon as voice comes out of the loudspeaker the listener wants to imagine what he hears and establish the owner of the voice in the mind's eye.

Ralph Ellis Knowles, better known as Raffie Knowles, who had been Head of Sports at the station for years, was the leading race and sporty commentator. (When TV came to Trinidad on Independence Day in 1962, he moonlighted there as the leading sportscaster for Trinidad and Tobago Television.

It is a much simpler and easier way to access. Compared with a TV station, setting up a radio station costs much less. The very term broadcasting refers to a massive scattering of the production covering any house, village, state, town and country within the transmitter range. It is also completely free to breathe.
