(a) How does the rate of the first stage of emulsion polymerization in the creation of polymer particles be affected if you change from a stryene monkmer to a methyl methacrylate monomer? (b) If you would like a final product with a larger number of particles, which stage of emlusion polymeeization meeds to be enchanced? (c) what about if yiu want the final product to with larger particles?

Answer #1

So rate of polymerization is continuosly changing whenever a new styrene molecule copolymerised with methyl methacrylate.

Mechanism can be performed via free radical or anionic mechanism.

Large number of polymers are produced at the end of reaction which could be easily identified by repeating units in the chain.

From problem 9.10 in the book. An initial experiment at an eyeglass manufacturer has produced poly(methyl methacrylate), whose monomer is (used in eyeglasses and hard contact lenses) with a number average molecular weight of 143,000, by carrying out the reaction at 65 °C for 45 minutes. Since the product design group has determined that a molecular weight of 100,000 is satisfactory, how fast can you speed up the production process and still achieve the desired MW? The activation energies for...

First, think about how much McDonaldization you think is present in your life, providing some examples. Then, consider whether you would like this to change, by reflecting on the positive and negative consequences of McDonaldization for you, including a consideration of our core value of community. You may want to focus on only one or two changes. Finally, think about how you might go about implementing such change(s), also thinking how that might relate to the core value of community.
