Question

II. NO2 CNLH DOO
Br- NH2 HS NO₂ my question is how to identify a priority. Is it by atomic mass? How does the methyl group attached to the lowest priority affect both? what would be the numbered priority for both of these ?
for the first picture I know F is the priority and for the second picture I know Br would be the priority number one (for the top chiro center) although I’m not sure which one would be number two since it is attached to another chiral center. or how you would determine that.

Answer #1

The procedure procedure to determine the priority by using on to Prelog Convention for a given store ocenter to of by using CCl I In this molecole, there are two stare ocenter (a) and (b). then the priority to the group attached to the each stereocen

In the above question priority of the of the group attached to the stereocenter is decided by atomic number not by atomic mass. The procedure for the determination of priority of the groups attached to the stereocenter is given above.

In this problem, how do you know which atoms or groups are going away, towards you, or in plane from the chiral center? for example, why do they assume that hydrogen is going away (dotted line) and Ch3 is coming towards you (bold colored line)? And how do you know which direction Ch2Ch2Br and Br is going in? its just a single line (Not dotted or bold). I know directions are important in determining R/S. Ex: In the second photo...

Hi please can you help me understand how to answer this question "If p-nitrophenol is treated with chlorine in the presence of ALCL3 the only trisubstituted product observed is: 2 chloro -4nitrophenol I am confused because p nitrophenol has both an OH group which is an ortho and para activating group and a NO2 which is a deactivating meta group. I think I can pinpoint my confusion a bit better. Here comes my updated question (I'm not sure what the standard way of doing things is - please let me know if I should delete the old version). The major change is that I removed focus from the third question which probably is a purely mathematical question (in the notation below, it asks what properties of (M,T) together with (M,T) being consistent, forces (M,T) to be unique.). Say that a...
