Disadvantages of a career of consular fellow at the U.S. Department of State:

The work environment requires a decisive action on critical issues as fast as possible and also under high pressure. The job is of repetitive nature as officers are expected to do more than 100 visa interviews per day. Often the work condition are less than ideal work conditions.Several other challenges faced are that of living away from your home country.Despite of being a diplomat in a foreign country you have to face the burden of high visa demands which compels you to be stuck inside the embassy without having any quality time for yourself.Job is of limited time span as consular are hired for 60 months but job security is also not guaranteed in this career as the consulars can be terminated any time.
