Design principles are meant to be foundational, i.e. they are set first before designing process is carried out. Then, these principles set are constantly referred while design process is done. Design principle deals with what a person learnt about the topic or project. The preset principles might have to be adjusted later to effectively satisfy the objective. Design principles that have to be followed are;

Effective principles help to give a sense of direction. Principles are designed to help help team make decisions. These should be designed according to the needs of the consumers. What I love about this principle is that it clarifies what we know about our admin and consumers.
2. Making designs specific
Design principles should be clear. It should not contain any double meanings. According to this principle the context should be used as a guide for design process. This conveys unambiguous meaning to the people on the team.
3. Making designs catchy
Design principles should be simple and catchy. Using complicated or complex words should be avoided. Multiple sentences should be avoided.
4. Making designs relevant
Principles designed should be directly connected to the present events. Principles should be a kind that is supposed to set example such that they can be referred by the team in designing future decisions.
5. Making designs periodically
Good principles are put into use. Refer to them during critiques. It may feel uncomfortable or critical at first, eventually your team will get adjusted to making decisions referring to the principles.
