in a certain breed of plants, dark green is determined by the dominant allele G and light green is determined by the recessive allele g. the heterozygous 75% penetrates for the dominant is phenotype. if the parental cross is GG x gg, how many light green plants would be expected in a population of 400 F2 plants?

Answer #1

GG*gg gives the f1 Gg

Gg*Gg will gives f2 generation as follows

Gametes G g
G GG(dark green) Gg(dark green)
g Gg(dark green) gg(light green)

According to the table ratio of homozygous dominant(GG), hetrozygous(Gg) and homozygous recessive(gg) is 1:2:1

In a population of 400 F2 plants the number will be

homozygous dominant(GG)= 100 plants (dark green)

hetrozygous(Gg) = 200 plants

In hetrozygous condition penetrance is 75%. Penetrance is the proportion of individuals that show phenotype associated with the genotype. This means that only 75% of hetrozygous(=150) will show dark green phenotype while remaining 50 will show light green phenotype.

homozygous recessive(gg)= 100 plants (light green)

Total Number of light green plants= 100+50=150

Let's use this equation to solve the following problem: In pea plants, the allele for tall plants (T) is dominant to the allele for dwarf plants (1). If a population of 100 plants has 36 dwarf plants, what is the frequency of each allele? Here is a step-by-step guide: 1. Let p = frequency of the dominant allele (R), and q = frequency of the recessive allele (1). 2.92 = frequency of the homozygous recessive = 36%, or 0.36. Since...

In Mendel's pea plants, the allele for purple flowers (P) is dominant to the allele for white flowers (p). You cross two pea plants that are heterozygous for the flower color trait and obtain 36 peas. When you plant these peas and grow them long enough to see their flowers, you find that 25 of them have purple flowers and 11 of them have white flowers.
