1. Healthcare costs rise every year and are a huge expense for employers, with some estimates putting it at over 70% of employee benefit costs. What are the minimum employee benefits (not just healthcare) that companies must provide by law (and to maintain a productive and motivated workforce)?

2. Share at least one example of how a Human Resource Department can effectively and creatively provide work-life benefits (physical and mental health options, alternative care, etc.). Share an example from your own research or from personal experience.

  1. Minimum employment benefits as per the laws defined in USA must have 40 hour workweek and must pay overtime for any hour exceeded. Also there have to be minimum wages defined in each state. Also employers are mandated to contribute certain percentage of provident fund towards EPFO which benefits employees in long run and are liable to pay severance packages upon firing.
  2. HR department can effectively and efficiently provide work life benefits through an Integrated Counselling program where employees are given perosnal mentoring, career guidance, support towards financial investment and stress management workshops to maintain healthy lifestyle. A total rewards package which is mix of appreciation, motivation, support, stock options, work life balance, flexibility in work hours, rewards, career progression, etc can immensely leverage the overall work life benefits.
  3. As per general duty clause of OSH, the employer needs to maintain safe and healthy workplace and adhere to global standards of safety precautionary measures. Employees have right to participate and right to refuse for any kind of work which is hazardous and also have right to know about safety measures and hazard risks. Managers thus can cocreate safe environment by having HSW auditing and giving soujd training and ensuring supervision to work. Employees thus must ask for additional training and ask for additional support while conducting hazardous works
