Mitochondria is a double membrane bound organelle characteristically found in Eukaryotic cell. The outer membrane is permeable to molecules. The inner membrane is highly folded and is known as cristae. It is selectively permeable two molecules. Inside the inner membrane of Mitochondriaal matrix is enclosed. The mitochondrial Matrix also encloses ribosomes. Double stranded circular molecule of DNA is also present in mitochondria and this is the reason, this organelle is known as semi autonomous organelle.

In between inner mitochondrial membrane and outer mitochondrial membrane, intermembrane space is present.

Out of the four complexes in electron transport chain, Complex 1, 3 and 4 transport protons across the membrane.

Coenzyme q and cytochrome C are small mobile electron carriers which shuttle electrons between complexes in electron transport chain.
