Another similar problem to the one posted earlier, but with a different volume...
• I count 176 colonies on a plate onto which 100 ml of a 10^-5 dilution of my culture was plated.
•what was the concentration of my original culture?
So, this problem needs calculation of CFU/ml first.
Cfu/ml = Number of colonies/Vomume of sample plated*dilution factor
= 176/100*105 = 176/107 = 176*10-7 or 1.76*10-9 cfu/ml
To get the concentration of original sample, the cfu/ml has to be mutiplied with the dilution factor.
So, it becomes = 1.76*10-9 cfu/ml * 105 = 1.76*10-2 cfu/ml
Therefore, 1.76*10-2 cfu/ml is the concentration of original sample.
Hope it helps, Good luck !!!!

Please show how to do these enumeration questions by showing the work. What is the dilution factor if you add 625 µL of culture to 4.375 mL of dilution medium? You count the 10-3 dilution of a yeast suspension using the 1/25 mm2 boxes : you find 45 cells in box 1, 15 cells in box 2, 42 cells in box 3, 23 cells in box 4, and 26 cells in box 5. a) What is the original concentration of...
please help with whatever possible. thank you so much in advance. Name One use of serial dilutions is to calculate the concentration of microorganisms. Since it would usually be challenging or even impossible to actually count the number of microorganisms in a sample, the sample is diluted and plated to get a reasonable number of colonies to count (usually between 25 to 250 colonies is the goal). Since each colony on an agar plate theoretically grew from a single microorganism,...
Write the formula for calculating the CFU/ml here and put in the numbers used. CFU (Colony Forming unit) CFU/ml= (Number of Colonies|Dilution factor) (Volume of culture plate) Conclusion: In a narrative form Using the 51 (Chapter 3, Cowan lecture book) Inoculation agar, Incubation, Isolation, Inspection, Identification Use the 5 l-s to explain how it was decided that the infectious southe was or was not the cause The number of colonies in first plate is 79. Dilution Practice Problem #5 You are given the following bacterial dilution scheme: ml 1 ml 1 ml 1 ml 1 ml CODILE 9ml 9ml 9ml 0.1 ml 0.1 ml colonies) (colonies colonies) Individual tube dilutions: BCD Dilution Factor: Total tube dilutions) IDE AB Plated dilution factor 1. Which plate is the countable plate? (30-300 countable range) 2. Calculate the titer of the original culture in cfu/ml.
A. You have been given a tube of E. coli. You are asked to make 1 mL total volume of 10-1 dilution of the bacterial culture. Explain how you would do this. Show all necessary calculations. ____ ml cells + _____ ml water = 1 ml (total volume) B. Next, you were asked to make a 10-2 dilution of the bacterial sample. Explain how you would perform this. Show all necessary calculations. You have bacteria at a concentration of 2...
b. 1 ml 1ml 「-I Final dilution 4(1 point) This represents a serial dilution to determine viable bacterial counts. Indicate the final dilutions in each of the two tubes. Note that two different volumes of the cells intube #2 are plated onto agar plates A and B. Indicate the dilution factor that will be used to report the original cell concentration on a per mL basis. 1 ml 1 ml Final dilution in Tube #1 = Final dilution in Tube...
You spread 0.1 mL volume of a 10^(-5) dilution onto a nutrient agar plate. After 24 hours of incubation at 37°C, there were 223 colonies of bacteria on the plate. A.) What is the original concentration (OCD) of bacteria in the stock sample this dilution came from? (2 points) B.) Using the OCD value from part A, determine the number of colonies that would be expected to grow on a plate that is inoculated with 0.1 mL volume of 10^(-7)...
you count 187 CFUS on a spread plate. The plate was prepared by spreading 0.2ml of a 1:100 dilution of a 1:50 dilution of a 1:10 dilution of the original sample. What is the concentration of the original sample. What is the concentration of the original culture in cells/ml

help me with the math. m e usually performed, e.g., 10°>10% 10% 10%, etc. Two-fold or other dilution schemes can be applied as well. For accurate quantitation, it is important to use the selected dilution scheme consistently. correction factor is 10 (0.1 ml X 10-10 ml). If you plated 0.5 ml, the correction factor is 2. 1.-CFU/Dr Initial concentration, (lc) equals colony forming units (cfu) divided by dilution factor (Df).
