  • Osteoblasts are small and contains one nucleus.
  • Osteoclasts are large and contains many nuclei.
  • They promote mineralization of bone.
  • They promote bone breakdown.
  • Osteoblasts possess receptors for parathyroid hormone. They are directly stimulated.
  • Osteoclasts do not posses receptors for parathyroid hormone. They are indirectly stimulated.
  • Osteoblasts mature to become osteocytes.
  • Osteoclasts do not mature into osteocytes.
