A labor union is an organization that works for labors as an mediator between the employers and employees.Its main aim is to give power to negotiate for good working conditions and other benefits through collective bargaining.Currently also most Americans view labor union favorably.However unionization rates in US have fallen recently.According to the US Bureau of labor statistics ,only 10.7 %of all wage and salary workers were union members in 2017.and the biggest decline was in transportation and material moving occupation.
Takeaways from unionization which will be important 3 years from now are unions benefit members but affect consumers by taking away job opportunities from them.
Unions decrease the number of jobs available to the economy.People lost a number of jobs in the manufacturing industries and union members were mostly affected.
Union cartels stop economic growth and delay the process of recovery.
As a professional the positive role of unions in the economy cannot be denied.They help to resolve workplace issues and works as advocates of employees .They look into workplace laws as well as safety of workplace.They work against discrimination in workplace.So as professionals it is necessary to join unions.
