A car accelerates from rest for 5 seconds at 8 mi/hr/s, heading west. It then continues without acceleration for 10 seconds. The brakes then slow the car to half its previous speed in 4 seconds and then to a stop in 3 more seconds. Graph the speed of the car as a function of time.

Two cars start from rest at a red stop light. When the light turns green, both cars accelerate forward. The blue car accelerates uniformly at a rate of 5.6 m/s2 for 3 seconds. It then continues at a constant speed for 7.8 seconds, before applying the brakes such that the car’s speed decreases uniformly coming to rest 178.16 meters from where it started. The yellow car accelerates uniformly for the entire distance, finally catching the blue car just as the...

A car starts from rest and accelerates at a constant rate until it reaches 75 mi/hr in a distance of 220 ft, at which time the clutch is disengaged. The car then slows down to a velocity of 25 mi/hr in an additional distance of 570 ft with a deceleration which is proportional to its velocity. Find the time t for the car to travel the 790 ft.

Please help me A San Francisco cable car is pulled by a cable running under the street. The cable moves at a constant speed of 9.50 mi/hr. The person who operates the cable car (called a gripman) operates a grip that grabs hold of the moving cable. (See Figure 2.) The gripman can allow the cable to slide through the grip so that the car can move at a speed that is slower than the cable. In Figure 2 the...
