Answer #1

Gans says that poverty play some important role in American society. It basically provides a pool of people who become ready to work even for low wages. He says that poverty exists in society because it play important functions and many main roles in society.

It can be understood through an example. If each and every person will become rich then no person will be there for doing cleaning work or any other dirty jobs. If no person will be poor then then there will be no person in service sectors.

Various small scale jobs are being created due to poverty. It also provides a chance for various service sectors to get a boost. All these are the reasons that poverty will remain in existence in society.
