A standard nitric acid solution is prepared using 0.425 g of sodium carbonate, Na2CO3. Find the molarity of the acid if 33.25 mL are required to reach a permanent endpoint. 2 HNO3 + Na2CO3 = 2 NaNO3 + H2O + CO2

Answer #1

Ans :

Number of mol of Na2CO3 = mass / molar mass

= 0.425 g / 105.99 g/mol = 0.004 mol

So number of mol of nitric acid = 2 x 0.004 mol = 0.008 mol

Molarity of acid = mol HNO3 / volume (L)

putting values :

= 0.008 mol / 0.03325 L

= 0.241 M
