Compare the structure of Euglenoids(Euglena), Paramecia, and Blepharisma.
Euglena is a genus of single cell flagellate eukaryotics.Euglena is a large genus of unicellular protists, they have both plant and animal characteristics. All live in water, and move by means of flagellum. This is an animal characteristic. Most have chloriplasts which are characteristic of algae and plant.
Paramecia are single celled protists that are naturally found in acquatic habitats. They are typically oblong or slipper shaped and are covered with short hairy structures called cilia.
Blepharisma is a microphagus filter feeder and ciliate, it is classified in the phylumciliophora. It is found in fresh and sault water.
Difference between Euglena and Paramecium::
1. Euglena is flagellate while Paramecium is a ciliate.
2. Paramecium shows animal characteristics, where as Euglena shows both anima and plant characteristics
3. Euglena has chloroplasts but not Paramecius does.
4. Paramecium is a heteroph while Euglena is both a heterotroph and an autotroph.
5. Euglena can survive long droughts without water or light, but paramecium cannot.
6. Pelliclin in euglena enables them the flexibility, but there is no pellicle in paramecium.
Similarities between Euglena and Paramecium::
1. They are single celled.
2. They ingest food through openings
3. They have projections for movement(cilia and flagella)
4. Both Euglena and paramecium are eukaryotic, micro organisms which belong to the kingdom protists.
5. Both are acquatic organisms.
6. Both contan chloroplasts to undergo photosynthesis.
7. Both Euglena and Paramecium consist of a pellicle, which provides a shape to the cell.
8. Both can be heterotrophs.
9. Both have a fixed sheet.
Similarities between Euglena Paramecium and Blepharisma:::
1. All are unicellular.
2. All found in fresh water.
3. They Can't reproduce by binary fission.
4. All be heterotrophs.
5. All feed on smaller protists.
Similarities between Paramecium and Blepharisma:::
1. Both are protozoans.
2. Both absorb and store food vacuole.
3. Both feels like bacteria
Similarities between Blepharisma and euglena::
1. Both have one nuclei.
