Core Job Dimension Description Examples
Skill Variety If a job requires a great variety of skills, this will high internal work motivation. On the other hand, if the job requires only a few skills, the work might get boring. Managerial jobs have less turnover of employees than clerical jobs, because the former requires greater skill variety
Task Identity A job that has a separate identity and has visible outcomes, employees will be more motivated in that job. Out of two workers wherein the first one is involved only in the planning and the second is involved both in planning and execution of the project, second one will be more motivated as outcomes of his job are more visible.
Task significance If the task has a great impact on the organisation, it will be more motivating for the employee to work on that task. Out of two workers wherein the first one is involved only in the planning and the second is involved both in planning and execution of the project, second one will be more motivated as execution is closely tracked and holds more significance.
Autonomy If the employee has great degree of freedom pertaining to their task, they will feel greater satisfaction and work effectiveness will be high. If there is no freedom to a shop floor worker to draw tools from the store room, and he needs to go to his supervisor every time, he will not be motivated to put in his best efforts
Feedback If the employee is communicated about how well he/she is performing in the job, they will be more motivated and satisfied in the job Rewarding or appreciating someone's work in front of their colleagues surely boosts morale
