  1. The difference between genes affecting qualitative and quantitative traits is considered to be simply based on the number of genes involved. Individual genes, whether they affect qualitative or quantitative trait have Mendelian type of segregation. But when two traits are measured the quantitative traits show continuous value for the trait whereas the value for qualitative traits can be grouped to discrete classes. Explain this difference in phenotypic expression.

There exists continuous value for the trait for quantitative traits because of genetic complexity and environmental sensitivity. Genetic complexityusually arises from the segregation of alleles at multiple loci and the  effect that each of these alleles poses on the trait phenotype is very small and the expression of such traits is sensitive to the environment. Allelic effects also depend on the genetic background as well as  sex. Because of this sort of complexity that arises, many genotypes are able to  give rise to the same phenotype, and thus the  same genotype can produce different phenotypic effects in various environments. So,there exists no clear relationship between genotype and phenotype in case of quantitative traits.
