Reflect on a change that you implemented or was implemented at an organization with which you are familiar that was not sustainable. Comment on the factors of sustaining change that were not included in the change process. How would you address the key factors which the organization missed and ultimately lead to the change being reversed?

Change is not an option, but a necessity for an organization. Changes must mandatorily be made to maintain the dynamic nature of the enterprise. Sustainability of change is a concept which is used to refer to those changes that are made to ensure the sustainability of an enterprise. It includes all those changes that are not likely to compromise with the performance of the organization in the long run. They are non-ominous, safer to adapt to changes. Most of the items listed above affect the sustainability of change. However, according to my outlook, FINANCIAL and POLITICAL impacts are more likely to affect the sustainability of change since they are the most fluctuating state of affairs of all the items listed above.

One such change was to increase the number of workers. All the formalities were catered to facilitate the change. However, when there was a change in government, the policy was forced to be withdrawn since the new political situation was in favor of protecting existing employees by preventing the recruitment of new employees. Thus the plan disproved to be a failure by not becoming sustainable.

The main factors that could be used to sustain change are calculated risk-taking and better forecasting. Taking a very low risk is equally dangerous to taking a very high risk. However, taking a calculated risk ensures that a firm achieves its desired objectives in a flawless manner. Furthermore, better forecasting helps to know in advance, the likely chance of success corollary to a change adopted. Hence, we can say that these factors help to cope with change.

In the case given above, the key factor that the organization could have missed is long term forecasting. The company failed to measure the impact of the recruitment of more workers on the existing staff. Besides, it has also failed to see future political change in society. Therefore, the company was forced to withdraw the change.
