Skin, largest organ of the body, acts as a barrier between the internal and external environment thus allowing us to maintain homeostasis. It is the largest sensory organs of the body and senses different noises or differences taking place in the external environment and triggers defence responses. It is stated in some recent papers that temperature of skin is the body's temperature and the thermo cutaneous signals give feedback thereby maintaining thermoregulation.
The three main mechanisms of homeostasis are: blood pressure, body fluid, body temperature, blood sugar and gas concentration. When body temperature falls due to the extremecold outside, vaso contaction of skin and lymph blood vessels help to maintain the temperature. The blood flow near the skin increases thereby increasing the temperature of the body. The skin triggers shivering so that the skin and vessels contract and keep you as warm as possible.
