A single gondola car (m=222kg) is supported by a massless rigid cable suspended at equal heights on opposite sides of a canyon. The seperation between the towers is 0.4 km and the length of the cable is 0.41 km. (10 m of extra cable). What is the tension in the cable when the gondola stops at the halfway point. What happens to tension at the halfway point if the cable is 0.401 km? Qualitatively, what happens to tension on both sides of the cable as the gondola moves from the center all the way to one of the edges?
