In your opinion what are some reasons that companies might not be addressing Gen Y leadership development programs?
The Gen Y or Generation Y age range from 1980 to 1994, also known as the internet generation. This generation of people is more family-oriented and is very much willing to sacrifice their own career development and advancement just to be with their family and maintain a work-life balance.
It can be seen that less than 40% of companies are having leadership developing programs as companies are avoiding addressing the leadership program nowadays for Gen Y. One of the reasons is that organizations think that Gen Y employees may leave the job and find other jobs in other companies as they can be much sure about it. So, they can't take the risk of spending much money on their leadership development program only to lose the employees in the future, which costs a lot of money. Companies want employees in the long run which Gen Y has less chance. It can also be said that companies are searching for good opportunities to make the Gen Y employees enter into the competitive market as many employees can be quite talented and skillful. Besides, it is also much difficult and expensive to train Gen Y employees than the younger generation Z as they are more tech-savvy and are younger and much advanced which Gen Y is not.
